My Children’s book is called ‘Where does sloth belong?’ Best suited children ages 2-8. This book brings to life a curious sloth who is determined to find where he belongs. On his adventure he meets some weird and wonderful characters, but things aren’t always as they seem. Will he be able to get home and find his family? Encourages kindness, inclusion and resilience.

Tell us about yourself. Who you are where you come from. Few things that define you ?

Book Talks with Author Chloe Stephens | New Book Release I am Chloe Born and raised in New Zealand and now live in the beautiful West Australia. I have always loved travelling. Seeing new things, experiencing new experiences. I am a mother to a 7 year old girl who fills my world with so much joy. My favorite time of the day is when I get to sit with her and share stories before bed. Our favorite animal is sloths so of coarse that was going to be the main character.

How did you discover writer in you ? What ultimately made you a writer ?

I wrote my first book when I was 8. It was about 2 young girls who found police uniforms. They ended up saving the city. I have always been really good reading at writing and enjoyed being creative. My daughter and I made this story together and I wanted to just make one copy for her. However through this process I have realized I wanted to keep doing this. I am good at this. I enjoy this.

What are qualities that an author should have to write well ? Hints : Visualizer / Constructing ideas within Split seconds , What is yours ?

Someone who enjoys being creative and thinking out of the box. Someone who is OK taking on constructive feedback and is resilient.

Talking about your new book ? What is it all about ?

  1. Book Talks with Author Chloe Stephens | New Book ReleaseThis book was written around the beginning of covid. People were separated from their families and it is important to be strong. This books teaches about the animals you will be able to find in South America. It also assists with teaching children rhymes and new words.

How do you construct ideas into books. Tell us Journey of your Books how they travel from just a thought all the way to store ?

It starts with an idea. From that idea you make sure you have a challenge and a way for that challenge to be over come. After this you would do a bit of character research. What do they like and not like. Are they sweet or grumpy. Write the story. Get feedback. Edit some more. Then you would work on illustrations and for myself I self published so I went through multiple platforms to publish and get my book out there.

What is your writing process. How you develop a plot, make it interesting read , create characters. Where do you draw inspiration from ?

For this book it was actually really easy. It flowed. I knew what I wanted to get across and the words just came out on the page. It is my dream to volunteer at the sloth sanctuary in Costa Rica. So for me that was the inspiration for this book.

How do you cope with writing block ? And any tips you have found to over come those blocks ?

For me I take a break. Get my mind completely off it and come back refreshed. If it is still a struggle I will work on character development or a different writing exercise to get the juices flowing again.

What is your writing routine ? Do you fancy to write a certain type of character or book ?

Children’s book are for me. I have a child and I am a child at heart. I love reading with my daughter every night. They are simple and easy to read and put joy on so many children’s faces.

What gener of books you want to write in future ?

I wouldn’t mind getting into children’s novels.

How do you deal with Negative Feedbacks ? How do you stay balanced with Positive Feed back ?

As long as it is constructive I welcome feedback good or bad. I am only starting out on my journey and want to get better.

Your experiences with publishers and editors ? Any Tips for aspiring author about finding and working with them ?

As mentioned I went down the self publishing route. The reason for this is I wanted the book to be as it was. This was special to have for my daughter and I. This also means that I had complete rights and ownership. I went with a company based in East Australia who assisted with the formatting, copyright and ISBN. It is a lot more work doing it yourself but can be so rewarding.

Any book writing in progress ?

Yes. I have a new book hopefully coming out early next year which is a story teaching Auslan sign language.

People whom you would like to thank and share gratitude with this interview ?

Every single person who has showed me support on my journey especially my family.
