CarryOnHarry Studios invited book author Peton Rose to tells us about his new book. Here are excerpts of the questions that he answered to us when contacted. you can also here our audio conversation with him on the show CarryOnHarry
What made you want to become a writer?
I grew up reading. Listened to my elders' accounts of their lives and dreamt of creating my own narratives. The extraordinary experiences of my childhood led me to focus on writing while attending Central High School in Little Rock. I earned a Philosophy degree from Lake Forest College and spent several years traveling the world. After returning home, I created my first novel about contemporary southern culture.
What do you love most about the writing process?
Having the ability to create and explore new worlds.
What tactics do you have when writing?
I keep a focused direction in mind. I spend an enormous amount of energy sketching out my characters and the story line before I begin writing the story.
What do you think makes a good story?
I love to experience the emotional spectrum in a story. Comedy, tragedy, fear, joy, comedy, and hope.
Do you have any suggestions to help me become a better writer? If so, what are they?
You must do your time in the chair. It is extremely difficult to create a successful story without spending a large amount of time sitting and writing. Letter by letter. Word by word. Sentence by sentence.
Where do you get your information or ideas for your books?
My experiences in life are the primary subjects of my stories.
What are your future project(s)?
I am currently finishing "Theatre for the Universe", a poetic narrative written in play format. I have begun sketching my third story about the natural gas boom that occurred in America in 2008 and ended in 2015.
Did you learn anything from writing this book and what was it?
Appreciate this life. It is the most precious thing we can know.
What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
Chapter 32: Life, Death, & the Anslow Asher Award
Tell us about your Your Book ?
The Long Way Home is my award-winning, debut novel. The comical, tragic, and hopeful tale of five young men, coming of age in the South, at the turn of the millennium.
