Over the past years, Jessy Yasmeen has played more than 200 shows on stages in The Netherlands and Germany. In 2019 her debut EP saw the light of day, she won a big Dutch music award, ‘Grote Prijs van Rotterdam’ (category: singer-songwriter), and earned nominations for the Rotterdam Music Awards (categories: ‘the promise’ and ‘best track’).
With both Dutch and South American roots, Jessy Yasmeen brings the best of both worlds with her Isolation Tapes EP and her Dreams EP in 2020.
With her songs she wants to challenge listeners to be vulnerable, help conquer personal battles with underlying fear and break those taboos.
Despite all ongoing restrictions these days she is dedicated to perform at local live shows as much as possible.
“Holy Water started out as a song about my narcissistic ex. But its meaning changed over time, figuring out that it was all about me not loving myself.
It all started after one of my first ever gigs when I accidentally ran into him. I don’t know why I fell in love with him that day. There was something about his eyes and his presence. He somehow made me forget about me.
I looked up to him. I adored him like a god. His words were like the testament to me and his will like the commandments. But if he was God and God was love then why was I not fulfilled? It was me who was feeding his ego, afraid of losing him. Because I already gave up on me. The day he left me was a blessing. That’s when my formation started, a purification of the soul”
