New Book from Dr. Chris Matinides Tells of a Shelter Dog Named Job and a Crisis of Faith

Dr. Chris Matinides has written "Job’s Gift of Love: How One Broken Dog Opened My Eyes to God’s Grace," a memoir built around a chance encounter at an animal shelter. The book is published through Christian Faith Publishing and is available now at bookstores and through major online retailers including Amazon, Apple iTunes, Google Play, and Barnes and Noble.

According to the announcement, Matinides, referred to in the book as Dr. Randy, is a vision specialist who had reached a point of spiritual doubt when a Saturday walk with his wife, Robin, brought them to a scarred pit bull at a shelter. The dog, which the couple went on to adopt and name Job, became the basis for a narrative the author says reshaped his own understanding of grace.

The book centers on themes of redemption, prejudice, and what the announcement describes as the transformative power of compassion, using Job’s physical scars and the assumptions people made about him as a parallel to the labels and judgments people carry. Matinides, who the announcement says has experience leading others to Christian faith, also dedicates the work to his mother, Jean, whom he describes as a lifelong influence on his spiritual life.

In the announcement, Matinides expressed his hope that readers would see their own healing journeys mirrored in Job’s story. "When we look at life through eyes filled with love rather than fear, we see God’s grace working in ways we never imagined possible."

The book joins a steady stream of faith-based titles from Christian Faith Publishing, whose catalog regularly features personal narratives connecting everyday experience to religious conviction, a lane that pet-redemption stories have become something of a staple within in recent years.

For Studio CarryOnHarry, stories pairing rescue animals with personal faith journeys are a well-worn genre in Christian publishing, and the real interest here is in how specifically Matinides’s medical background and his mother’s influence shape his telling of it.
