New Children’s Book ‘Sally’s First Day of School’ Frames Bullying Through a Lens of Faith

J.B. Richardson has published "Sally’s First Day of School: And Her New Best Friend," a children’s book that follows a young girl navigating bullying and social exclusion at school, according to an announcement from Christian Faith Publishing, which released the book.

The story centers on Sally, a girl whose kindness and gentle nature initially make her a target in a school environment the book describes as rewarding harshness over compassion. Richardson says he based the character on his own eldest daughter, who experienced bullying, and wrote the book for parents looking to help children through similar situations.

The narrative follows Sally as she weighs whether to change herself to fit in or hold onto her own nature, a tension the announcement frames as the book’s central question. Richardson, described in the announcement as a husband and father, says his own experiences with adversity and his path toward what he calls spiritual transformation shaped how he wrote Sally’s struggle.

"I wrote this book to show children that being kind, loving, and true to yourself is never a mistake," Richardson said in the announcement. "When we anchor our identities in faith rather than peer approval, we discover a strength that no amount of bullying can diminish."

The publisher describes the book as aimed at validating children’s experiences with social struggle while pointing them toward faith as a source of resilience. "Sally’s First Day of School: And Her New Best Friend" is available through bookstores and major online retailers including Amazon, Apple iTunes, Google Play, and Barnes and Noble.

Studio CarryOnHarry sees this as part of a steady stream of faith-based children’s books addressing bullying, a topic that remains a persistent concern for parents and educators alike regardless of genre.
