Nakkya Bouie, an author from Ohio who is raising two children as a single parent, has released "Survival," a memoir tracing her experiences with homelessness, an abusive marriage, and what the announcement describes as betrayal by a family member.

According to the announcement, Bouie began writing at age thirteen, and "Survival" marks the fulfillment of that early interest. The narrative unfolds from her earliest years through to the present day in chronological order, and centers on the periods she describes as most difficult: housing instability, a failed marriage, and strained family relationships.

"I wrote this book to show others that no matter what you face in life, you have the ability to survive and eventually thrive," Bouie said in the announcement.

The publisher describes the book as offering both validation and encouragement to readers facing similar circumstances, framing Bouie’s account as a record of perseverance rather than simply a chronicle of hardship. "Survival" was published through Christian Faith Publishing and is available at bookstores, as well as through Apple iTunes, Amazon, Google Play, and Barnes & Noble.

Memoirs built around homelessness and domestic abuse tend to find their audience less through marketing than through word of mouth among readers who’ve lived something similar. Studio CarryOnHarry will be curious to see whether "Survival" finds that kind of reader base in the months ahead.
