Yvonne Joy’s New Novel Follows a Retired Headmaster’s Illness and a Community’s Path to a Nature Retreat

Author Yvonne Joy has released "My Soul Doth Magnify the Lord," a work of inspirational fiction published through Christian Faith Publishing, according to the publisher’s announcement.

The story follows Bill, a former headmaster and respected community figure, as a grave health crisis prompts him to reconsider his life’s direction and impact, the publisher states. Into that crisis arrives Jill Evans, a preacher whose aim, as the announcement describes it, is not just to comfort Bill but to guide him toward renewed faith. A third figure, Bill’s neighbor Prissy Miss, carries unresolved pain tied to Bill’s past actions and is described as caught between resentment and a desire to reclaim her own voice.

The three characters’ paths converge around the founding of the Dense Forest Nature Interfaith Retreat, a project the announcement describes as transforming a neglected area into a nature and interfaith gathering space with the help of municipal funding. The announcement positions the work as an examination of how friendship, faith, and forgiveness emerge when adversity catalyzes transformation.

The title draws on a biblical phrase, the opening line of the Magnificat in the Gospel of Luke, in which Mary responds to news of her pregnancy with Jesus. The phrase has been used before as a title in Christian publishing, including in devotional writings by Mark and Elizabeth Clare Prophet, though Yvonne Joy’s book is an unrelated work of fiction.

"My Soul Doth Magnify the Lord" is available through Christian Faith Publishing’s website, Amazon, Apple’s iTunes store, Barnes & Noble, and in brick-and-mortar bookstores, per the announcement.

Studio CarryOnHarry will be curious whether the Dense Forest Nature Interfaith Retreat, as a fictional project blending civic funding and interfaith space, resonates with readers looking for faith fiction grounded in community-building rather than personal piety alone.
