Jason R. Smith & Woodrow T. Fail’s New Book, “A Guide to Being a Golf Rules Official,” is an Instructive & Comprehensive Look at What It Takes to Become a Golf Referee
[ad_1]
“There are many books covering the rules of golf but very little written on how to be a golf referee (rules official),” say Smith and Fail. “Most people do not realize that almost all golf referees are volunteers. Sure many of them get lunch or breakfast covered while at a tournament. But very few actually get paid. The comradery and passion for the game of golf are what inspires most golf enthusiasts to begin an exploration of the rules.”
Published by Page Publishing, Jason R. Smith and Woodrow T. Fail’s thorough tale rectifies some of the misconceptions about being a golf rules official and demystifies the process of getting involved. Smith and Fail found that, disappointingly, so much knowledge surrounding rule officiating was learned through word-of-mouth only, such as how to become a golf referee, how to enforce rules, and how to help ensure the best possible game. Following the rules of golf and enforcing them are two completely different games, and the authors have mastered the art of the latter.
There is more that goes into rules officiating than the average golf enjoyer may realize. Rules officials strive to help players avoid penalties, act as a resource when players have questions, and aid in setting up the course itself. Jason R. Smith and Woodrow T. Fail hope to inspire the next class of golf rules officials providing insight into a different side of golf.
Readers who wish to experience this intriguing work can purchase “A Guide to Being a Golf Rules Official: What the Rules of Golf Don’t Tell You” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes Store, Amazon, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.

New Children’s Book Follows Three Boys Through County Fair Livestock Week
Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk
Leslie J. Weatherford has published a new children’s book, "Farmer Fuzzy Pants Goes to the Fair," which follows three boys, Matt, Mark, and Joey, through a week of raising and showing livestock at the county fair. The book is out now through Page Publishing.
The story centers on fair week itself: stalls that need cleaning daily, animals that need tending, and a tractor pull along the way, all building toward an auction where the boys’ months of work with their cows, pigs, and chickens get put to the test. According to the book’s description, one of the three, Joey, has specific plans for what he wants to do with his earnings, but has to prove he’s put in the work before the bidding starts. The book is categorized as juvenile fiction and draws on real details of fair life, from animal tagging to auction-day bidding, to give young readers a sense of what livestock competition actually involves.
Weatherford, drawing on her Michigan heritage, started creating children’s stories in 2024 following her experience as a parent. "Farmer Fuzzy Pants Goes to the Fair" is her recent release under Page Publishing.
"I wanted to create a story that shows children how hard work translates into real results," Weatherford said in a statement, adding that she hopes readers see Matt, Mark, and Joey’s journey as proof that showing up every day and caring for responsibilities pays off in ways that go beyond ribbons and trophies.
The book is available at bookstores and online through Amazon, Apple Books, Google Play, and Barnes & Noble.
Studio CarryOnHarry sees this as part of a steady stream of agricultural-life stories aimed at young readers who may never set foot on a farm, and that alone makes the genre worth keeping an eye on.

Amanda Solomon’s New Novel “Liberty” Follows a Woman Rebuilding Her Life in Laguna Beach
Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk
Amanda Solomon has published a new novel, "Liberty," centered on a woman who relocates to Laguna Beach, California, to put a painful past behind her and start over. The book is available now through Page Publishing, in bookstores and through major online retailers including Amazon, Apple Books, Google Play, and Barnes & Noble.
According to the book’s description, the protagonist’s fresh start takes an unexpected turn when she meets Duncan, who becomes a close confidant. Their relationship gradually surfaces secrets tied to her past, a thread that drives the novel’s central tension between forgetting and reckoning with what came before. An audiobook edition has also been released, running just over four hours and narrated by Olivia Liebe. The print edition runs 126 pages.
Solomon has said her interest in writing began with poetry in school, and she has pointed to Nicholas Sparks and Colleen Hoover as influences on her fiction, both known for relationship-driven, emotionally direct storytelling — a lineage that tracks with "Liberty"’s premise of self-discovery through friendship.
"This story is a deeply personal one," Solomon said in a statement, "and I hope it will inspire readers to embrace the power of resilience and the redemptive qualities of friendship."
Studio CarryOnHarry will be watching whether the audiobook, with a named narrator already attached, helps the book find an audience beyond the usual churn of small-press debut fiction.
