Author Hal Daniels is a longtime adjunct professor of English and writing, presently working at Miami Dade College Kendall. Previously, he worked as a newspaper reporter in South Florida, and has also taught at Florida Atlantic University, Broward College, Palm Beach State College, and Lynn University in Boca Raton.
His work has appeared in the New York Post, The Real Paper of Boston, Sport Magazine, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, XS Magazine, South Florida Magazine, and other esteemed publications. Hal grew up in Whitestone, Queens, New York City, and is a proud graduate of Bayside High School in northern Queens, Boston University, and Florida Atlantic University, where he attended graduate school. He lives in Broward County, Florida.
Hal writes, “Now that his parents are divorced, teenager Andy Sadler and his mother Rose must fend for themselves in the suburban jungle of Whitestone, Queens, on the outskirts of New York City in the turbulent sixties. Andy, a shy only child, is one day ambushed by the beautiful young blond cashier at the Whitestone Bakery. He is instantly smitten by the lovely Katy Kelly, a Catholic school girl. (Andy attends the local public school.) So Andy barges into the bakery with the intent of striking up a conversation with the angel behind the register. But Johnny Vigorito, a local tough guy in a black leather jacket and a cherry red Ford Mustang, has gotten there first! Does Andy give up? Hell no!

James Geil has published a memoir recounting his boyhood years in what was then East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, during the early 1960s. "Tales from East Pakistan": Boyhood Memories of Living Overseas is drawn from Geil’s own recollections of growing up overseas and traveling through South Asia, the Middle East and Europe during that period, according to the announcement.
Geil spent 35 years teaching nautical science at Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts, a boarding school with a maritime program, where he also captained the Tabor Boy, the school’s 92-foot training vessel. He took up writing after retiring from that career, according to the announcement.
The book centers on Geil’s childhood exposure to the region’s cultures and historic sites during a period of significant geopolitical change in South Asia, in the years before East Pakistan’s 1971 split from Pakistan and emergence as independent Bangladesh. "My memories of those formative years abroad remained vivid throughout my career, and I felt compelled to preserve them for future generations," Geil said in the announcement. "I hope readers will find in these pages a window into a remarkable period of global history and the transformative nature of cross-cultural experience."
The book is published through Newman Springs Publishing and is available at bookstores and through major online retailers including Amazon, Apple Books, Google Play and Barnes & Noble.

Richard A. Chrismer’s New Memoir Traces Path From Orphanage to Vietnam Service to the Missouri Statehouse

Richard A. Chrismer has published a new memoir, "Reflections on Life: From Orphanage to Military and Beyond," tracing his path from an orphaned childhood through military service in Vietnam and into a career in Missouri state politics. The book is out now through Newman Springs Publishing.
According to the announcement, Chrismer spent part of his childhood in an orphanage before going on to serve three tours of duty in Vietnam with the Air Force, where he was decorated with multiple Bronze and Silver service stars. He later served as a Missouri State Representative, where the announcement credits him with championing veterans’ benefits and authoring a state tax cut described as record-breaking.
The memoir covers that arc directly, according to the publisher’s description, moving from the hardship of his early years through his military record and into his legislative work. It also turns to his personal life, including his marriage to Mary and his four children, framing those relationships as central to the story he wanted to tell.
"My intention in writing this book was to share how my life has been touched by others and how I, in turn, have affected those I have met along my journey," Chrismer said in the announcement. "I hope these reflections will inspire readers to recall their own moments of connection and to recognize the profound impact they have had on those around them."
The publisher frames the work as exploring how personal significance is measured not by individual accomplishment but by one’s impact on others, a theme it says runs through Chrismer’s accounts of encounters with both political figures and ordinary people over his decades in public service.
