Page Publishing Author, Serving Prison Sentence, Releases Novel Set in East Oakland Group Home
Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk
Jamell Tousant has released "The Wonderful Dysfunctional World of Welfare Babiees," a novel set in a sprawling group home in East Oakland, following a cast of young characters navigating poverty, trauma, and the search for belonging. The book is published through Page Publishing.
The story centers on a household of kids known collectively through the "Sugar’s purple house" setting, among them Slimy Jay, a schemer; Pray, devoted to street preaching; Freddie, an artist working against the odds stacked against him; and Nay Nay, a streetwise trans girl. According to the announcement and other descriptions of the book, it blends humor with hardship, tracking how the characters build something resembling family out of circumstances that offer them little.
Tousant wrote the book while serving a twenty-two-year sentence in the California state prison system. The announcement states that his son was murdered in 2015, and that the loss became the turning point of a spiritual awakening that reshaped his sense of purpose. Out of that, he founded a movement called "Welfare Babiee" — an acronym, per the announcement, for "We Elevating, Living Life for Real, and Really Eating" — aimed at young people he describes as forgotten by the systems meant to serve them.
"I wrote this book for every kid growing up in forgotten neighborhoods, overlooked ghettos, and broken systems," Tousant said in the announcement. "Jesus loves you, and He will never forsake you. You can bet your last dime on that."
The publisher describes the novel as aimed particularly at teenagers and young adults looking for stories that reckon honestly with struggle rather than smoothing it over. "The Wonderful Dysfunctional World of Welfare Babiees" is available through Page Publishing’s website, as well as Amazon, Apple Books, Google Play, and Barnes & Noble.
What stands out to Studio CarryOnHarry is less the plot than the circumstance behind it: a novel about young people slipping through the cracks, written by someone doing so from inside one of the systems his own book is arguing against.

Army Veteran’s New Book Breaks Down Leadership Communication Into Learnable Skills
Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk
Tex Edes has published "Leadership Communication Simplified: A Personal Development Guide," a self-help title aimed at leaders who struggle to be heard, give effective feedback, or navigate day-to-day workplace conflict, according to the book’s publisher, Page Publishing.
Edes draws on roughly three decades of leadership experience that spans small-town retail, government contracts and corporate boardrooms, according to the announcement. He is also a US Army veteran whose career moved from front-line supervisory work to executive leadership, and he has lectured on communication and built training programs for teams, the publisher states.
The book organizes its argument around five skill areas: building trust through personal branding, listening rather than waiting to respond, reading nonverbal cues, telling stories that move people to act, and holding steady during digital exchanges, difficult conversations and high-pressure moments. According to the publisher’s description, each chapter pairs a practical framework with a field story meant to show how the idea plays out on an actual team, rather than leaving it as abstract advice.
"After decades of leading through countless changes and challenges, I realized that the leaders who make the greatest difference aren’t necessarily the smartest in the room," Edes said in a statement accompanying the release. "They’re the ones who communicate with intention and help others feel heard. I wrote this book to help readers stop second-guessing themselves and start leading with authentic confidence."
The publisher frames the book’s core claim plainly: that leadership communication is a skill that can be learned, not a trait some people simply have. Readers can obtain the book from retail locations and digital platforms such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google Play, and Apple iTunes, with Page Publishing as the publisher.
Studio CarryOnHarry notes the leadership-communication category is a crowded one, but a book built from three decades of varied, hands-on experience rather than a single industry’s playbook is worth a second look for readers tired of recycled management-speak.

New Children’s Book “Mommy’s Mismatched Heels” Follows a Four-Year-Old’s Closet Adventure
Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk
Missy Munden has published a new picture book, "Mommy’s Mismatched Heels," about a four-year-old named Kamdyn who refuses to be left out of her older sisters’ games in their mother’s closet. According to the author, Kamdyn finds a pair of mismatched heels, puts them on, and sets off on an adventure of her own, discovering along the way that being the youngest doesn’t mean missing out.
Munden has described writing as a lifelong pursuit, tracing it back to childhood stories and a college professor who encouraged her to take the craft seriously. The book draws on values she says she tries to pass on to her own daughters, built around the idea that self-imposed limits, not age or size, are what actually hold a person back.
"I wanted to create a story that celebrates the spirit of children who refuse to be sidelined," Munden said. "Kamdyn’s adventure in her mommy’s heels is a reminder that all children merit feelings of belonging, agency, and the ability to forge their own wonder."
This work falls within the children’s fiction category and centers on themes of inclusion and self-determination, framed through a younger sibling’s point of view, a perspective not always centered in children’s picture books about imaginative play. It was published through Page Publishing and is available at major retailers including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Google Play, and the Apple iTunes Store, as well as in bookstores.
Studio CarryOnHarry sees the appeal here less in the publishing details and more in the premise itself: stories that take a younger sibling’s frustration seriously tend to find a loyal readership among exactly that audience, and that’s the lane this one is aiming for.
