Cedric Hill has won multiple honors and distinctions as a writer, director, and producer of both film and theatre.  In 2005, he founded To & Fro Productions, a film company dedicated to telling gripping stories with depth and sophistication. As executive producer he wears many hats from developing scripts, creating budgets and casting to writing, engineering production strategy and directing. Throughout its 15 years, Cedric has led the company to build a substantial resume of award-winning feature films, shorts and touring theatre.

About You and Your background ?

 I started in theater, in New York, I worked a show and fell in love with film and television as much as I loved lived theater.So I began studying both with the same passion.

How do you convince yourself with things that you have to shoot for a film but you actually don’t otherwise believe?

I don’t. If it’s part of the story, it gets shot.

Your Scripting Process? Your approach to casting?

I usually get unclear, though, in my head about something that needs to be written, and then it’s a waiting game until the story comes to me. The hardest part has the patience to let the story come out.

As for casting, I need a real actor. Trained and have a deep understanding of the craft. From there is simply letting the character walk through the door.

How much does your life influences your story telling and the characters that you bring to life ? 

I wish more, but honestly, these characters live and breathe autonomously of me.

How do you work on yourself to become better in your field – learning , observing , reading ? Type of things you keep yourself involved with

All of the above. For all visual mediums, you have to be autodidactic in your approach. Formal education, I think, is a necessary step and then practical application. Then when you can put it all together. Then you can spend every movie or play as a learning experience.

I am a professor at a conservatory, and to keep what I teach current and accurate, I have to be one step ahead of my class. Classes, workshops, and again taking the study, applying it to practical use, and then putting it all together.

Filmmaking is team work. Tell us about your team and what sort of pre planning gets done before you decide to make a film. Tough things about making films and what keeps you going despite those tough things ?

My team is all storytellers in their own right and own discipline. The better we do our jobs, the less we have to run around and fix problems. So the more we plan, the better the production will run. As for the tough times, an excellent performance, and a great shot are such a tremendous high that they push you through the tough times to get to that place again.

I have a very creative interpretation of permit laws.

Two Peas in a Pod (Feature) about sexual content in marriage. It was shot a year ago and looked at two stories and characters with the same actors.

How do you deal with Negative Feedbacks ? How do you stay balanced with Positive Feed back ?

The feedback directly relates to the film and filmmaking. I take notes and work on getting better and constantly improve. But I ignore the input that has to do with personal likes and dislikes.
