Richard A. Chrismer’s New Memoir Traces Path From Orphanage to Vietnam Service to the Missouri Statehouse

Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk

Richard A. Chrismer has published a new memoir, "Reflections on Life: From Orphanage to Military and Beyond," tracing his path from an orphaned childhood through military service in Vietnam and into a career in Missouri state politics. The book is out now through Newman Springs Publishing.

According to the announcement, Chrismer spent part of his childhood in an orphanage before going on to serve three tours of duty in Vietnam with the Air Force, where he was decorated with multiple Bronze and Silver service stars. He later served as a Missouri State Representative, where the announcement credits him with championing veterans’ benefits and authoring a state tax cut described as record-breaking.

The memoir covers that arc directly, according to the publisher’s description, moving from the hardship of his early years through his military record and into his legislative work. It also turns to his personal life, including his marriage to Mary and his four children, framing those relationships as central to the story he wanted to tell.

"My intention in writing this book was to share how my life has been touched by others and how I, in turn, have affected those I have met along my journey," Chrismer said in the announcement. "I hope these reflections will inspire readers to recall their own moments of connection and to recognize the profound impact they have had on those around them."

The publisher frames the work as exploring how personal significance is measured not by individual accomplishment but by one’s impact on others, a theme it says runs through Chrismer’s accounts of encounters with both political figures and ordinary people over his decades in public service.

"Reflections on Life: From Orphanage to Military and Beyond" is available now through major booksellers, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google Play, and the Apple iTunes Store, as well as directly through Newman Springs Publishing.

Studio CarryOnHarry is interested in how Chrismer’s legislative record, particularly the veterans’ benefits work, holds up against the broader story of Vietnam-era veterans entering state politics in the decades after their service.

James Geil’s Memoir Recalls a 1960s Boyhood in East Pakistan

Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk

James Geil has published a memoir recounting his boyhood years in what was then East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, during the early 1960s. "Tales from East Pakistan": Boyhood Memories of Living Overseas is drawn from Geil’s own recollections of growing up overseas and traveling through South Asia, the Middle East and Europe during that period, according to the announcement.

Geil spent 35 years teaching nautical science at Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts, a boarding school with a maritime program, where he also captained the Tabor Boy, the school’s 92-foot training vessel. He took up writing after retiring from that career, according to the announcement.

The book centers on Geil’s childhood exposure to the region’s cultures and historic sites during a period of significant geopolitical change in South Asia, in the years before East Pakistan’s 1971 split from Pakistan and emergence as independent Bangladesh. "My memories of those formative years abroad remained vivid throughout my career, and I felt compelled to preserve them for future generations," Geil said in the announcement. "I hope readers will find in these pages a window into a remarkable period of global history and the transformative nature of cross-cultural experience."

The book is published through Newman Springs Publishing and is available at bookstores and through major online retailers including Amazon, Apple Books, Google Play and Barnes & Noble.

Studio CarryOnHarry sees this as part of a steady stream of personal memoirs finding an audience among readers drawn to firsthand accounts of a world, and a region, that looked very different six decades ago.

New Novel “Lives Well Lived” Traces One Boy’s Question Through Four Generations of a Family

Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk

Rich Gove has published a new novel, "Lives Well Lived," following Nate Johnson from age eleven into adulthood as a question he asks as a child ripples outward to reshape his family and his town, according to the publisher’s announcement.

The book, published through Fulton Books, spans four generations of the Johnson family. Per the publisher’s description, Nate is raised with the steady support of his parents and guided along the way by three figures who become central to the story: Marjorie, Thomas, and Sharon. The JT Ranch recurs throughout as a setting tied to mentorship and purpose, and Nate’s eventual marriage to Sharon anchors the book’s later chapters. The publisher describes the novel as built around themes of love, learning, and generosity, carried through the relationships between parents and children, mentors and protégés, and spouses.

Gove is a retired educator who, according to the announcement, started writing during the pandemic intending to produce a short story for his family. The project grew into a roughly two-hundred-page novel. He has said he spent long stretches planning the book before writing it, and that he particularly enjoyed developing the friendship between Marjorie and Mary and tracing Sharon’s arc through the story.

"Writing this book became a true joy," Gove said in the announcement. "I wanted to create a story that would resonate in readers’ hearts and remind them that the most meaningful lives are those lived in service to others and in deep connection with those we love."

"Lives Well Lived" is available through Fulton Books’ website and at major retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google Play, and the Apple iTunes Store.

Studio CarryOnHarry sees a familiar but durable pitch here: a multigenerational family story built on mentorship and small-town values, the kind of book that tends to find its readers through word of mouth rather than splashy marketing.
