Children’s Author Linda McCain Releases Interactive Workbook ‘Good Night, Mr. White!’

Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk

Author Linda McCain has published "Good Night, Mr. White!", the latest entry in her Combined Story Workbook for Children series, through Page Publishing. The book pairs a story for young readers with safety-focused questions at the end, targeted at the four-to-ten age group.

The story centers on themes of loneliness, kindness and friendship between generations, according to the announcement, following an older character and the connection that forms with a younger one. McCain designed the series with the dual purpose of entertaining young readers while addressing important educational topics: hold a child’s attention while also giving parents, grandparents, teachers and caregivers a structured way to talk through safety lessons afterward.

McCain’s prior work includes books addressing social issues and writing published in magazines, according to the announcement, which it points to as the basis for her approach to combining storytelling with education. McCain stated, "A child’s future starts today," in her accompanying remarks.

"Good Night, Mr. White!" is available through Page Publishing’s website, as well as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google Play and the Apple iTunes Store.

Studio CarryOnHarry’s interest here is in the format as much as the story: workbook-style children’s books that build in a safety or discussion component are a small but persistent niche in self-published children’s literature, and one worth watching as more authors adopt it.

Susan Tigert’s New Novel Follows Three Women Bound by Secrets in 1963 New York

Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk

Author Susan Tigert has released "The Silence of Friends," a historical novel set in 1963 New York City that follows three women whose lives intersect at the fictional Astoria Regent Hotel. The book is published through Christian Faith Publishing.

The story centers on Hannah, a hotel hostess trying to find her footing in unfamiliar surroundings; Leah, a society wife whose polished exterior masks a loveless marriage; and Rebecca, who has entered high society through a wealthy lover only to find that the arrangement endangers her safety and future. The novel draws inspiration from the biblical figures of the same names as its protagonists, and the novel uses their stories to explore themes of silence, abuse, and the courage required to speak out.

As the women’s friendship develops, the narrative follows them toward supporting Haven House, a refuge for women in crisis, turning what the publisher describes as personal hardship into an effort to help others. A secret carried for decades eventually complicates their bond, according to the book’s description.

"Friendship can be an extraordinary gift, especially during life’s most difficult seasons," Tigert said in a statement accompanying the release. "Through Hannah, Leah, and Rebecca’s journey, the novel explores the strength women discover in one another and the courage required to speak up, listen, and stand beside someone who needs support."

The publisher positions the novel as a spiritually grounded look at resilience and loyalty, framed around questions it says remain relevant six decades after its 1960s setting: what it means to stand by someone in crisis, and how being heard and believed can help a person move forward.

"The Silence of Friends" is available through Amazon, Apple Books, Google Play, Barnes & Noble, and participating booksellers.

Studio CarryOnHarry notes that faith-based fiction built around themes of abuse and survivor support occupies a crowded but steady market, and a novel’s success in that space tends to rest on how specifically it handles its subject rather than on the premise alone.

Retired Ohio Educator Myrna Sanner Publishes Case for Classical Education in New Book

Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk

Myrna Sanner, an educator with more than four decades of classroom experience, has released "Pushing the Education Reset Button: Acquiring Knowledge and Building Character," published through Covenant Books.

The book argues that federal involvement in schools, teachers’ unions, university-level teacher training, and heavy classroom use of technology have weakened American education, according to the announcement. Sanner’s proposed remedy is a return to what she calls holistic, classical education, which the book positions as a way to rebuild academic rigor, improve attendance and test scores, and strengthen student character and behavior.

According to a synopsis of the book, Sanner frames her argument around a set of figures and concerns: national data showing roughly 31 percent of fourth-graders proficient in reading, and U.S. student rankings of 38th in math and 24th in science compared with other countries internationally. The book also raises concerns about ideological content in schools and what Sanner describes as a decline in shared values such as respect, responsibility and hard work, which she argues classical education historically reinforced.

Sanner’s background spans more than thirty classrooms over her career, work helping launch early Head Start programs, a teaching stint at the American School in Japan, and service on multiple curriculum development committees, the announcement states. She was on staff at an Ohio elementary school when it was named Ohio School of the Year, holds advanced degrees in education and counseling, and has completed Professional Teachers Certification. She has also mentored more than fifty teachers, according to the release.

"My diverse experience in education, as a teacher and mother, has convinced me that returning to the fundamental principles of holistic, classical education presents our most promising opportunity to rebuild academic excellence and strengthen the character of our students," Sanner said in a statement accompanying the release.

The book arrives as the publisher notes the United States marking the 250th anniversary of its founding this year, a framing Sanner invokes directly, tying her argument for classical education to the country’s founding-era emphasis on education as, in her words, a safeguard for a free and unified society.

"Pushing the Education Reset Button" is available through Covenant Books’ website, as well as major retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google Play and the Apple iTunes Store.

Studio CarryOnHarry will be watching whether Sanner’s classical-education argument gets traction beyond the book itself, given how contested the debate over curriculum and teacher training has become in American schools.
