Navy Chaplain’s New Book Recounts COVID-Era Vaccine Mandate Discharges
Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk
Dan Klender, who served 22 years as a U.S. Navy chaplain, has published a new book examining the military’s handling of religious accommodation requests during the Department of Defense’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate. The book, "The Death of Courage: The Betrayal of the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor During the COVID-19 Scandal," was released through Christian Faith Publishing.
Klender’s military service began shortly after the September 11 attacks, following earlier work pastoring churches in New Mexico and Washington state. He holds a Doctor of Ministry and a Master of Exegetical Theology, with degrees from Phoenix Seminary and Western Seminary, according to the announcement.
The work examines the cases of military personnel separated from service following the Department of Defense’s immunization requirement., which has since been rescinded. According to the announcement, Klender argues that religious accommodation requests from these service members were not properly considered, and he frames the discharges as a violation of First Amendment protections. The publisher describes the book as identifying structural failures in military leadership during that period and proposing changes aimed at institutional accountability.
"I witnessed leaders abandon the principles our warriors had sworn to defend," Klender said in the announcement. "This book documents that betrayal with the precision it demands, while offering a roadmap toward restoration and renewed commitment to constitutional fidelity."
This is not Klender’s first book. He has previously written "Living with the End in View," published through Covenant Books, which centered on themes of faith and mortality.
"The Death of Courage" is available through major booksellers and online retailers including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Google Play, and the Apple iTunes Store.
The military’s vaccine mandate and the discharges that followed remain a contested chapter in recent defense policy, and Studio CarryOnHarry expects accounts like Klender’s to keep surfacing as veterans and former officers weigh in on how those decisions were made and who bore the consequences.

Teresa Rittinger’s New Children’s Book Follows a Young Cow Finding Her Place on a New Ranch
Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk
Teresa Rittinger has published a new children’s book, "The Christmas Cow," following Callie, a baby cow adjusting to life on a new ranch after being separated from everything familiar to her. Published through Christian Faith Publishing, the 38-page book came out in late September.
According to the announcement, Callie’s story unfolds as she encounters sheep, birds, and butterflies for the first time and slowly builds friendships in unfamiliar territory. The book, described as based on a true story, centers on Callie’s discovery of a glowing light tree on the ranch and her growing wish to be part of its radiance. The publisher frames the narrative around themes of courage, belonging, and inner beauty.
Rittinger has a background as a Marriage and Family Therapist, and the announcement credits that experience with shaping how the story handles change and connection. "My goal was to craft a narrative capturing how children actually respond to unfamiliar settings while honoring the wonder of meaningful relationships and personal growth," Rittinger said in the announcement. "Through Callie’s journey, I hope young readers see themselves and understand that their unique qualities make them beautiful too."
The publisher positions the book as a resource for parents and educators looking to talk with young children about change, friendship, and acceptance. It’s worth noting the title overlaps with at least two other previously published children’s books centered on a "Christmas cow" figure, including Ray Berilla’s nativity-themed story and Nate Kirian’s "Clarence the Christmas Cow" — a reminder that gentle animal parables built around the holiday are a well-worn corner of children’s publishing, not a one-off concept.
"The Christmas Cow" is available through bookstores and major online retailers including Amazon, Apple Books, Google Play, and Barnes & Noble. Studio CarryOnHarry sees this as part of a steady stream of faith-oriented children’s titles entering the holiday market each fall, and will leave it to parents and educators to judge how Callie’s story stands alongside its namesakes.

Educator Brian Givens Publishes Parenting Guide Built Around Four Biblical Principles
Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk
With nearly two decades of experience in education—as a teacher, coach, and principal—Brian Givens brings firsthand knowledge to his new parenting book, has published a new book aimed at Christian parents, "Following Christ in the Chaos: 4 Biblical Principles for Parents," through Christian Faith Publishing.
At the heart of the work are four foundational principles abbreviated as TILT: Train with Trust, Imitate our King, Lead with Love, and Teach with Grace According to the publisher’s description, the book argues that raising children spiritually requires more than parenting techniques or quick fixes, and instead frames the work as a call for parents to deepen their own relationship with God first. Each of the four principles gets its own chapters addressing both personal spiritual practice and day-to-day parenting decisions, covering topics including how to read Scripture in context, how to approach prayer, how to handle discipline, and how to manage parental anxiety.
Structurally, the book includes what the publisher describes as "training mode" sections at the end of each chapter, pairing referenced Bible verses with reflection questions and a prayer response, plus an appendix of additional spiritual formation resources.
Givens draws on his own background for the book’s perspective: he’s married to Jana and is the father of two sons, Owen and Mitchell, and describes his years in school leadership as giving him a vantage point on how Christian families are navigating what the book characterizes as an increasingly overstimulating culture. "Your intimacy with God can impact not only your children but also generations of Christ followers to come," Givens said in a statement accompanying the release, adding that he wants the book to "awaken Christian moms and dads to pursue his presence personally."
The book is available through major booksellers and online retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google Play, and the Apple iTunes Store.
Studio CarryOnHarry will be watching whether Givens’s dual background in education and parenting gives this entry more staying power than the steady stream of faith-based parenting guides competing for the same readers.
