Author Ben Scott’s New Book, ‘Why and How Much Should I Be Giving to the Church and the Poor’, Shares How God Guided Him and His Wife Along the Path of Giving/Tithing

Ben Scott, who was born in Toledo, Ohio, in 1941, has completed his new book, “Why and How Much Should I Be Giving to the Church and the Poor”: a compelling work that shares the many chapters of the author’s journey in faith. The book references many Bible verses that had formed the author and his wife to their new way of life of giving/tithing.

Author Ben Scott was born to a middle-class family of four children. Growing up, Ben had very few examples of generosity or giving patterns. When he was 21, he bought a bar that became a successful college hangout. In his early thirties, he became a McDonald’s restaurant franchisee, and he, his wife, and two children moved to Piqua, Ohio, to open their first restaurant. It was the incredible generosity and community involvement of his mentor and founder of McDonald’s, Ray Kroc, that got his attention that started him on the path to following his mentor’s example. Scott went on to open eight more McDonald’s restaurants and retired thirty years later. He and his wife, Louise, enjoy playing golf, spending time with their two children and five grandchildren, and spending their winters in Florida.

Ben writes, “My brothers and sisters, sweet is the thought of mercy, but even more so is mercy itself. It is what all men hope for, but unfortunately, not what all men deserve. For while all men wish to receive it, only a few are willing to give it. How can a man ask for himself what he refuses to give to another? If he expects to receive any mercy in heaven, he should give mercy on earth. Do we all desire to receive mercy? Let us make mercy our patroness now, and she will free us in the world to come. Yes, there is mercy in heaven, but the road to it is paved by our merciful acts on earth.”

Published by Covenant Books of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Ben Scott’s new book was written with the hope of inspiring others. The Scotts have been raising money to build villages in Haiti for more than 12 years and talk about their Haiti experiences in the book.
