Author Judy Bibbins’s New Book “Return to Ullshoi Hill” Follows the Travels of a Tomte and a Farm Boy Who Set Off to Discover the True Meaning of Friendship and Home

Originally from a small town in New Hampshire, author Judy Bibbins grew up learning about her Scandinavian heritage from her grandfather. She believes in the magic of friendship, fairies, and meeting people where they are with an open heart. Bibbins fell in love with writing in college and always believed she would publish her stories, but it took becoming a grandmother to give her the courage to take that leap. “Return to Ullshoi Hill” is the author’s second published work and her first children’s story.
Bibbins writes, “Jeran was late. It was his job to grind the oats into flour for tomorrow morning’s bread, and he was running late. It takes time to get the proper texture, and starting late would put him behind schedule. In truth, it was his schedule. He chose this specific job as his way to serve the farm, but he took his responsibility seriously. He frantically grabbed his red cap off the hook and ran from his home in the old oak tree, not checking to see if anyone was around. That was a mistake. If he had been paying attention, he would have seen the glow of the light in the barn and known someone was still awake.
“And so begins the tale of a little tomte and the adventure it sets into motion when Jeran accidentally meets the farm boy, Hagan. They form an unlikely friendship that sees them through some harrowing experiences, encounters with fairies, and learning the meaning of home. Victor Sanchez Jr. has published a memoir, "My Wine Country," drawing on his own upbringing in Sonoma County to describe a childhood marked by hardship and what the author describes as an eventual path toward stability. According to the announcement, the book traces Sanchez’s life from adolescence, when he began facing what the publisher describes as life’s most demanding challenges, through his later experience as a cancer survivor. Both periods, the announcement states, inform the book’s reflections on survival and endurance.
The publisher describes "My Wine Country" as both a personal memoir and a broader meditation on resilience, built around themes of loss, perseverance, and what the announcement calls the quiet joys that sustain people through difficult periods. Sanchez frames the project in personal terms. "This book represents my truth," he said in the announcement. The setting is a specific one: Sonoma County, part of California’s wine country, a region more commonly associated in print with travel writing and vineyard guides than with memoirs of adolescent hardship. Rudolph Silas, Esq. has published "Fate Smiled on the Misbegotten: An Autobiographical Novel," a memoir tracing his path from a childhood in Jacksonville, Florida, marked by poverty to a career as an attorney in New York. According to the book’s own description, the memoir recounts the story of a poor Black child born out of wedlock with few options, and how perseverance, fortunate circumstances, and unexpected kindness from others transformed what began as limited prospects into a life of achievement. Silas’s legal career forms a throughline for the book, according to the announcement. After establishing himself as a prosecutor in Brooklyn, he subsequently defended New York City agencies and everyday citizens in civil matters, securing what the announcement describes as numerous seven-figure verdicts and settlements.
"What began as a series of disadvantages became the foundation for a life I could never have imagined," Silas said in the announcement. "I wrote this book to show others facing similar circumstances that their current situation does not determine their destiny."
