Author Nicole C. Greely’s New Book, “Disparity of Service,” Explores How Economic Decline Often Leads to Cuts to Necessary Educational Programs for Disabled Students

Shortly before entering her undergraduate education with hopes of pursuing a pre-law degree, author Nicole C. Greely was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and was legally blinded by the disease. Her plans now changed because of the progression of the disease, Greely learned to persevere through the educational system and completed both of her degrees.
“All modern nations have experienced, at one time or another, difficult economic times,” writes Greely. “The United States of America has had its share of economic crises. Such crises result in the disruption of most government budgetary arrangements resulting in the downsizing of budgetary allocations for many services according to government policy priorities. Education is one area usually seriously affected by budget reductions. Various services are either discontinued or reduced to challenging levels. Disabled Student services (DSS) is one such service that has been greatly affected by budgetary reductions (Krupnick 2011). The reduction in services may vary from state to state. This study focuses on Northern California, specifically in the Alameda and Contra Costa counties of the East Bay Area. Research carried out by DRA concluded that ‘although system-wide the community colleges have experienced average cuts of about 2.5%, the cuts to disability services are more than 40%, according to the California Association for Postsecondary Education and Disability’ (Disabled Rights Advocates 2012).
“During such difficult times, students resort to a variety of methods of financing their education, including student employment, financial aid, grants, and assistance from families. The thesis of this paper is that as a direct consequence of the current economic downturn, students with disabilities experience more barriers in postsecondary education than students without disabilities. I will demonstrate that the current economic downturn adversely affects students with disabilities in postsecondary education far more than their peers without disabilities. Consequently, students with disabilities are far more likely not to attain their academic goals.”

Rev. Clarence Yordy, a 95-year-old Korean War veteran and former pastor, has published a new collection of sermons titled "In Times Like These, Be Very Sure," through Christian Faith Publishing.
The book gathers sermons described by its publisher as addressing faith, perseverance, healing and purpose, rooted in Scripture and shaped by what the announcement calls real-life experience. According to the publisher’s description, the collection is meant to offer readers a steady voice amid noise and uncertainty, inviting them to pause and reconnect with their faith in the course of daily life.
Yordy brings a long personal history to the material. He served in the Korean War, spent years in pastoral ministry, and raised seven children, with grandchildren and great-grandchildren following. "I wanted to share the lessons I’ve learned across a lifetime of ministry," Yordy said in the announcement. "In times like these, we need anchors of truth that hold steady regardless of the storms around us. My prayer is that these messages help others find that unwavering foundation in Christ."
The publisher describes the sermons as addressing both practical and spiritual questions — encouragement for difficult seasons, Yordy says, alongside what the publisher frames as deeper understanding of what it means to live out faith with conviction.

Author Nancy Chance has released "Ancient History of Man, the Fallen Angels, and Religions," a book examining humanity’s earliest history through the lens of biblical and ancient texts, published through Christian Faith Publishing.
The book draws on the Holy Bible and the Book of Enoch, along with what the announcement describes as extensive research across scientific, historical, and journalistic sources. Its narrative opens with what Chance characterizes as creation’s original state of perfection, then moves to the descent of fallen angels to Earth and the disruption that followed. The Book of Enoch, an ancient Jewish religious text not included in most biblical canons, has long been a touchstone for writers and theologians interested in the fallen angels narrative referenced briefly in Genesis, and Chance’s book builds its account around that same source material alongside scripture.
Chance came to this project after a career in nursing. The author started her creative pursuits with teenage poetry, progressed through short stories and screenplays, and after leaving nursing pursued this theological work. This new book follows an earlier, shorter work, "One God and the Fallen Angels," and the publisher describes it as an expanded treatment of the same research and themes.
In a statement, Chance explained her motivation: "I felt compelled to share this narrative because it illuminates not only the struggle between light and darkness, but God’s constant love for His creation." "Through extensive research and biblical foundation, I hope readers will come to know Him intimately and understand their place in this epic narrative."
The publisher positions the book as a resource for readers interested in biblical and historical perspectives on the origins of human civilization and its relationship to the divine.
