Richard J. Stephens Jr., MA, a retired sheriff who has filled numerous roles throughout his 30-year career in law enforcement, including detention officer, SWAT commander, and Crisis Intervention Team council chairman, has completed his new book “The Calling: Seated at the Table with the Broken”: a powerful memoir that explores the mental struggles and trauma that many in law enforcement face, but few speak of.
Learning from a young age about the importance of fair play, honor, and integrity, U.S. Navy veteran, former mayor, and retired County Sheriff Richard Stephens filled multiple roles throughout his 30-plus years of law enforcement and public service. From standing on the same ground where lives were taken, leading teams into dangerous situations, and ensuring those who had entrusted him with their safety lived to see another day, little did he know the impact his chosen calling would ultimately have upon him, both physically and emotionally.
