Author Rick Anthony Cordova’s New Book, “Shadows of Our Catholic Church,” is a Faith-Based Read That Challenges Catholics to Seek Answers About Their Faith
[ad_1]
“Jesus was a Jew. Why are some of us ‘Catholics?’ What is a ‘Catholic?’ How has abuse been allowed to exist within the Catholic Church ever since its inception? Why is any abuse within the Church accepted, tolerated, or even possible?” writes Cordova. “When clergy harm any member of our church family, the entire Church is harmed. When do we become ashamed of ‘indifference’ within our Church and stop being merely ‘bystanders’ to abuses by clergy? No matter the form or the magnitude, abuse is abuse. Through their clerical abuses, clericalism, and lack of authenticity, clergy destroy their credibility as ‘priests.’ It is then that members of the laity are compelled to walk away from the Church they deeply love. To continue as a true ‘Christian’ in the religion of one’s choice, where does one go? What does one do?
“As true ‘Catholics,’ we are called to deepen our love for God by not being afraid to ask questions or to question our faith. Who do we say God is? What do we believe in? [I share] personal experiences and witness with brief history points and insight of our Catholic Church, praying to encourage and challenge others to embrace ‘parresia,’ an awesome term used by Bergoglio with the conclave prior to being elected as Pope Francis. We are all this beautiful and blessed ‘assembly’ which is our ‘Church,’ where everyone should feel welcome and loved; and no one should ever be abused, feel intimidated, ignored, excluded, or afraid. Shalom!”
Published by Covenant Books of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Rick Anthony Cordova’s new book is a powerful look at how Catholics can continue in their faith and grow closer with Christ while asking important questions about abuse from church leaders many have faced. Through his writings, Cordova shows how a church is not what clergy say it is, but rather how its members follow Jesus, and how Catholics can turn their church into a loving, authentic environment.
Readers can purchase “Shadows of Our Catholic Church: Remaining as Catholics in Spite of Our Church and the Abuses by Our Clergy” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon or Barnes and Noble.

Katt Taylor’s New Novel Follows a Woman’s Fractured Spirit from Darkness to Awakening
Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk
Katt Taylor has released "The Mental Woman Within," a novel tracing the spiritual unraveling and eventual awakening of a woman named Sarah Jane, published through Newman Springs Publishing.
The book’s synopsis describes the account of Sarah Jane, whose consciousness became trapped at age five and existed in profound darkness for decades, unaware of her own aliveness while what the synopsis calls forces of fear, shame, and temptation work against her. The narrative follows her toward what the publisher frames as a spiritual reckoning with good and evil, built around a recurring image of a "garden of truth" where hope, possibility, and fear coexist. According to the book’s own description, Sarah Jane eventually confronts a force called Destruction, framed as working against what the text calls God’s plan for her, and the synopsis notes a follow-up title, "Luke’s Destruction," as forthcoming.
Taylor was born to a teenage mother in Tallulah, Louisiana, and has said her mother’s own unpublished writing first pushed her toward authorship. She raised five children, now has fifteen grandchildren, and counts V.C. Andrews among her primary literary influences on her approach to emotionally charged, spiritually driven storytelling.
"This story represents my attempt to give voice to those who feel trapped within themselves," Taylor said in a statement announcing the book. "Sarah Jane’s journey is about recognizing that even in our darkest moments, transformation and spiritual awakening remain possible if we choose to listen to the voice within."
"The Mental Woman Within" is available at bookstores and through major online retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google Play, and the Apple iTunes Store.
Studio CarryOnHarry will be watching to see whether Taylor’s promised sequel, "Luke’s Destruction," builds directly on Sarah Jane’s story or strikes out into new territory.

New Children’s Book ‘Mocha, the Ground Fairy’ Follows a Guinea Pig Determined to Fly
Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk
Dr. Leslie Merida-Gonzalez has published a new children’s book, "Mocha, the Ground Fairy," through Fulton Books. The story follows Mocha, a brown, fluffy guinea pig who attempts to fly using wings built from leaves and twigs, only to land, each time, skidding on her bottom, which earns her the teasing nickname from her fellow guinea pigs.
Merida-Gonzalez is a music teacher in Port St. Lucie, Florida, where she works with children with varying needs. She holds a doctorate in education with a focus on exceptional student education, a background she says shapes how she thinks about reaching different kinds of young readers. According to the announcement, the guinea pig characters in the book are drawn from pets her own children had growing up.
The book centers on Mocha’s refusal to quit despite ridicule from her peers, drawing courage, in the story, from her grandmother’s fairy tales. "Through Mocha’s journey, I wanted to remind children that falling doesn’t mean failing," Merida-Gonzalez said in the announcement. "Every stumble is simply another step toward finding the magic that’s been inside them all along." The publisher describes the book as aimed at encouraging children to keep trying after setbacks and to embrace what makes them different.
"Mocha, the Ground Fairy" is available in bookstores and through major online retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google Play, and the Apple iTunes Store, as well as directly through Fulton Books’ website.
Studio CarryOnHarry sees stories like Mocha’s as part of a steady stream of small-press children’s books built around a simple, repeatable idea: a animal protagonist, a visible flaw, and a lesson about persistence. The appeal isn’t novelty, it’s execution, and that’s worth watching for in any read-aloud picture book pitched this way.
