About Avalon Soulette Brown
After working for over four decades in the field of healthcare, Avalon Soulette Brown has retired as of April 1 of this year. Avalon was a nurse and was an infection control preventionist with University Hospital, based in Newark, New Jersey. During her first 18 years, Brown worked on a post-op GI/GU surgical floor. For the next 20 years, she worked in the field of dialysis. While working in the dialysis field, she held several titles including charge nurse, anemia manager, kidney transplant designee, infection control nurse, vascular access nurse, urea clearance nurse, and spent 3 years as a clinical manager. She also worked in home care, per diem.
“I find joy in comforting those in their time of need. My goal is to spread as much love as I can,” said Brown.
In addition to her nursing career, Avalon is an author and has co-authored six anthologies. With two children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, she has written numerous books using her grandchildren as the characters including “That Needle is Not for Me,” “Mommy, Why do I have a Cold,” “My Dad & the Big Machine,” “Ben There’s a Mouse in the House,” and “The Church That I Love,” “Ja’Quay The Fearless Ant Leader.” She hopes these books will serve as her legacy. Brown has also written “Avalon’s Spiritual Poetry,” and a memoir entitled, “It Was the Devil All Along.”
Avalon earned her L.P.N. from Essex County Tech in 1983, her A.S.N. from Essex County College in 1992, and her B.S.N. from Regis University in 2017. She belongs to the American Nurses Association.
In her retirement, Avalon will keep busy doing the things she loves including outdoors activities, arts and crafts, writing books, and going to church.

Suzanne Hobbs’s latest release through Page Publishing, "The Sleepy Snake: A Perfect Bedtime Story," chronicles a weary serpent moving through various locations seeking an ideal sleeping spot.
The book is a follow-up to Hobbs’s debut, "The Hungry Snake," which introduced the same snake on a different kind of search: a hungry trek through a cast of curious animals in pursuit of the perfect meal. Where that first book ran on appetite, this one runs on exhaustion, with the snake encountering a series of unlikely resting spots before finding one that suits him.
Hobbs spent close to fourteen years as a television reporter and news anchor for NBC and CBS affiliates in Idaho, covering court and crime stories. According to the announcement, a case she covered in 2000 drew her into advocacy for Safe Haven laws, work that led to her own daughter’s adoption in 2003. The announcement describes that history as part of what shapes her writing now, including her attention to themes of safety and comfort for children.
"My hope is that children will see themselves in the sleepy snake’s journey," Hobbs said in the announcement. "This story celebrates the beauty of rest and encourages young readers to imagine their own cozy places where they can feel safe and peaceful."
Page Publishing markets the book as a bedtime resource designed to smooth the shift from being awake to sleeping, featuring invitations for young readers to envision their own creatures and peaceful locations in the story. It’s available through Page Publishing’s site, Amazon, Apple Books, Google Play and Barnes & Noble.

New Book from Fifty-Year Accounting Veteran Charles Zeigler Jr. Aims to Demystify the Profession for Beginners

Charles Zeigler, Jr., a certified management accountant with roughly five decades of experience in accounting and finance, has published "Basic Accounting Theory for Beginners or Those Thinking of a Career," a guide aimed at people weighing accounting as a profession or simply trying to understand how a company’s books work.
The book is built around a single teaching device: a fictional manufacturing company whose transactions readers follow for a full year, from the initial investment through closing the books at year’s end. According to the book’s description, that structure is meant to walk readers through the accounting equation, double-entry bookkeeping, journal entries, and how financial statements come together, building the concepts from first principles rather than treating them as material to memorize for an exam.
Zeigler’s own career included work as an accountant, auditor, controller, and financial analyst, with a focus on industrial cost accounting, according to the announcement. He has worked across corporations in Michigan and California subsidiaries, and describes one formative experience installing new accounting systems into a company culture resistant to the change. That background, per the announcement, shaped his approach to explaining technical material in plain language.
The book also takes on a question aimed squarely at the undecided: accounting or finance. Zeigler lays out, in his own words, which certifications carry weight in the field, what realistic salary and growth trajectories look like, and the paths from staff-level roles up to controller or CFO. It closes with what the book’s description calls personal advice on what tends to separate people who succeed in the field from those who don’t.
"I wanted to create a resource that answers the questions I wish someone had addressed when I was beginning my career," Zeigler said in a statement accompanying the release. "This book demystifies accounting and gives readers the honest perspective they need to make an informed decision about their professional future."
The book is published through Page Publishing and is available at bookstores and through major online retailers including Amazon, Apple Books, Google Play, and Barnes & Noble.
