Donna M. Smith’s Newly Released “The Reluctant Gift” is an Emotionally Charged Tale of Sacrifice and Unconditional Love
[ad_1]
Smith shares, “People have been drawn to animals since the beginning of time. Kind and thoughtful pet owners love their pets, and in return, those beloved pets unconditionally love their pet owners back. They can bring about incredible joy for the whole family and, in fact, become like members of that family. Little Katie wants this joy for herself—she desperately wants a dog of her own. Being an only child, she yearns for a small, fury playmate with whom she can play, take care of, and love. She feels that at eight years old, she is now old enough to take care of a dog. After several years of pleading for a puppy, Katie finally sees her fondest dream come true. She loves her new, special friend with all her heart and keeps her promise to faithfully take care of her. But after becoming very attached to her sweet little dog, her dream is suddenly snatched away. She finds herself forced into giving her greatest gift. The sacrifice seems far too great. But would her reluctantly given ‘gift’ be for a greater good? Would she come to realize that a true gift is always freely given?
“The Reluctant Gift is a fictional work based on true events.”
Published by Christian Faith Publishing, Donna M. Smith’s new book will tug at the heartstrings and challenge young readers in their understanding of true sacrifice.
Consumers can purchase “The Reluctant Gift” at traditional brick & mortar bookstores, or online at Amazon.com, Apple iTunes store, or Barnes and Noble.

James Geil’s Memoir Recalls a 1960s Boyhood in East Pakistan
Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk
James Geil has published a memoir recounting his boyhood years in what was then East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, during the early 1960s. "Tales from East Pakistan": Boyhood Memories of Living Overseas is drawn from Geil’s own recollections of growing up overseas and traveling through South Asia, the Middle East and Europe during that period, according to the announcement.
Geil spent 35 years teaching nautical science at Tabor Academy in Marion, Massachusetts, a boarding school with a maritime program, where he also captained the Tabor Boy, the school’s 92-foot training vessel. He took up writing after retiring from that career, according to the announcement.
The book centers on Geil’s childhood exposure to the region’s cultures and historic sites during a period of significant geopolitical change in South Asia, in the years before East Pakistan’s 1971 split from Pakistan and emergence as independent Bangladesh. "My memories of those formative years abroad remained vivid throughout my career, and I felt compelled to preserve them for future generations," Geil said in the announcement. "I hope readers will find in these pages a window into a remarkable period of global history and the transformative nature of cross-cultural experience."
The book is published through Newman Springs Publishing and is available at bookstores and through major online retailers including Amazon, Apple Books, Google Play and Barnes & Noble.
Studio CarryOnHarry sees this as part of a steady stream of personal memoirs finding an audience among readers drawn to firsthand accounts of a world, and a region, that looked very different six decades ago.

Richard A. Chrismer’s New Memoir Traces Path From Orphanage to Vietnam Service to the Missouri Statehouse
Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk
Richard A. Chrismer has published a new memoir, "Reflections on Life: From Orphanage to Military and Beyond," tracing his path from an orphaned childhood through military service in Vietnam and into a career in Missouri state politics. The book is out now through Newman Springs Publishing.
According to the announcement, Chrismer spent part of his childhood in an orphanage before going on to serve three tours of duty in Vietnam with the Air Force, where he was decorated with multiple Bronze and Silver service stars. He later served as a Missouri State Representative, where the announcement credits him with championing veterans’ benefits and authoring a state tax cut described as record-breaking.
The memoir covers that arc directly, according to the publisher’s description, moving from the hardship of his early years through his military record and into his legislative work. It also turns to his personal life, including his marriage to Mary and his four children, framing those relationships as central to the story he wanted to tell.
"My intention in writing this book was to share how my life has been touched by others and how I, in turn, have affected those I have met along my journey," Chrismer said in the announcement. "I hope these reflections will inspire readers to recall their own moments of connection and to recognize the profound impact they have had on those around them."
The publisher frames the work as exploring how personal significance is measured not by individual accomplishment but by one’s impact on others, a theme it says runs through Chrismer’s accounts of encounters with both political figures and ordinary people over his decades in public service.
"Reflections on Life: From Orphanage to Military and Beyond" is available now through major booksellers, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Google Play, and the Apple iTunes Store, as well as directly through Newman Springs Publishing.
Studio CarryOnHarry is interested in how Chrismer’s legislative record, particularly the veterans’ benefits work, holds up against the broader story of Vietnam-era veterans entering state politics in the decades after their service.
