Hiro+Mari, renowned hair stylists and founders of Salon87, in collaboration with acclaimed photographer Maru Teppei, proudly announce the release of their anthology photobook, “87 Heads.“
An embodiment of innovative hairstyling, fashion, and artful photography, “87 Heads” is a unique love letter to East Williamsburg, a neighborhood revered for its vibrant culture and community. The photobook captures the iconic hairstyles and beauty trends conceptualized and created by Hiro+Mari, transforming everyday individuals into extraordinary models.
Originally intended to deepen connections with locals of Graham Avenue, the project experienced a temporary hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges, Hiro+Mari and Maru Teppei resumed their project, creating a testament to resilience, beauty, and creativity amidst adversity.
“87 Heads” celebrates not just craft but the resilient spirit of East Williamsburg. The community was a constant source of inspiration. In the face of an unprecedented pandemic, Hiro+Mari wondered what they could give to their community. By creating hair art on their neighbors, family and friends, they realized they could bring joy through their creative work.
Featuring the meticulous Japanese techniques and New York style that Salon87 is known for, “87 Heads” takes readers on a journey to showcase and celebrate diverse counterculture styles ranging from nostalgic Japanese Sukeban perms to iconic flat-tops with Basquiat embellishments. Maru Teppei’s photography, which has previously been recognized for its surrealistic aesthetics and vivid engagement with the subject, adds an arresting visual depth to the anthology.
This collection is a testament to Salon87’s mission: to create new trends in the fashion and beauty industry worldwide from Brooklyn, NY. “87 Heads” is a tribute to the perseverance and passion of its stylists: Chika Nishiyama, Izumi Sato, Miwako Urasugi, and Yu Nakata.

Victor Sanchez Jr. has published a memoir, "My Wine Country," drawing on his own upbringing in Sonoma County to describe a childhood marked by hardship and what the author describes as an eventual path toward stability. The book is out now through Page Publishing, available in bookstores and through major online retailers including Amazon, Apple iTunes, Google Play, and Barnes and Noble.
According to the announcement, the book traces Sanchez’s life from adolescence, when he began facing what the publisher describes as life’s most demanding challenges, through his later experience as a cancer survivor. Both periods, the announcement states, inform the book’s reflections on survival and endurance.
The publisher describes "My Wine Country" as both a personal memoir and a broader meditation on resilience, built around themes of loss, perseverance, and what the announcement calls the quiet joys that sustain people through difficult periods. Sanchez frames the project in personal terms. "This book represents my truth," he said in the announcement. "I wanted to share my story not just as a survivor, but as someone who learned that pain and joy are inseparable parts of what makes us human."
The setting is a specific one: Sonoma County, part of California’s wine country, a region more commonly associated in print with travel writing and vineyard guides than with memoirs of adolescent hardship. That contrast, between the postcard image of the region and the account Sanchez describes living through there, is part of what the book is positioned around.

Rudolph Silas, Esq. has published "Fate Smiled on the Misbegotten: An Autobiographical Novel," a memoir tracing his path from a childhood in Jacksonville, Florida, marked by poverty to a career as an attorney in New York. Studio CarryOnHarry received the announcement from Page Publishing, which released the book this month.
According to the book’s own description, the memoir recounts the story of a poor Black child born out of wedlock with few options, and how perseverance, fortunate circumstances, and unexpected kindness from others transformed what began as limited prospects into a life of achievement. The announcement frames the book as both a personal account and a broader reflection on class, race, and what remains possible in America despite systemic obstacles.
Silas’s legal career forms a throughline for the book, according to the announcement. After establishing himself as a prosecutor in Brooklyn, he subsequently defended New York City agencies and everyday citizens in civil matters, securing what the announcement describes as numerous seven-figure verdicts and settlements.
"What began as a series of disadvantages became the foundation for a life I could never have imagined," Silas said in the announcement. "I wrote this book to show others facing similar circumstances that their current situation does not determine their destiny."
