Mickey Rourke Up to His Old Tricks Says Acting Dynamo Gary Stretch

Speaking to CYInterview, Mickey Rourke’s costar in the upcoming film, Devil’s Play, Gary Stretch, who is also one of the film’s producers and has a history with Mickey, said the actor completely changed the character he was supposed to play in the movie:
“The role was a great role and Mickey changed it a lot. And it was based on a true guy and there were some brilliant scenes in the movie that Mickey just erased and did his own thing, which in some ways I was mad about because it was so brilliantly written, the role. And then in other ways, I’m happy that Mickey did Mickey because he did a great job. But he completely changed it and, but it worked.”
Gary Stretch, a former boxing champion/actor/filmmaker, is among other things, known for the 2019 documentary film he directed on former UFC superstar Ronda Rousey, Through My Father’s Eyes. Mr. Stretch said Rourke’s role in Devil’s Play is his best work recently, but also noted that the actor had a couple of meltdowns while filming Devil’s Play:
“I think it’s the best I’ve seen Mickey in a while because he’s very real in the film. You know, he had a bit of a meltdown on the set a few times and he was a challenge, but, he, what I will say, is you know, Mickey has a lot of, a bad reputation. He worked really hard. He did his job really well and the only thing, it, was not 100 percent was that he completely changed the role, and so, but we trusted that he’s a great actor and we went with it and we made it work, so, it was great to work with him.”
Mr. Stretch, a powerhouse actor in his own right, is known for brilliant performances in Oliver Stone’s Alexander and the Shane Meadows film Deadman Shoes. He was joined for this CYInterview with his Devil’s Play co-star, Bulgarian acting superstar Dessy Tenekedjieva. The director Ben Charles Edwards, also stated that Mickey Rourke described his role in the Devil’s Play as “One of my most meaningful performances in the past two decades.”
Devil’s Play is slated for worldwide distribution by Buffalo 8 on December 19, via Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play and Verizon Fios/Vubiquity. It will be available via a pre-sales launch on Apple on December 5th.
Produced by Dessy Tenekedjieva of Black Sea Film and Nova Film the movie was shot across Bulgaria, Los Angeles, and London. It featured cinematography from Dennis Madden (Savage Flowers) who delivers masterful visual storytelling.

Author Tonya Williams’s New Children’s Book Tells a Rescue Puppy’s Story Through the Lens of Her Wisconsin Ranch

Tonya Williams has released "The Adventures of Loki and Friends," a children’s book narrated by a rescue puppy named Loki who leaves an uncertain start in Texas behind and finds a home on a working farm. The book is published through Christian Faith Publishing and is available now in bookstores and through major online retailers.
The story is told in Loki’s own voice. He arrives at his new home not knowing anyone, and the book follows him as he meets the farm’s other animals, including a donkey named Amos who becomes his closest friend, along with goats, horses, cattle, and potbellied pigs. According to the publisher’s description, each of these animals carries a story of its own, and Loki’s arrival becomes part of a larger web of relationships built around rescue, belonging, and gratitude.
Williams draws on her own background for the material. She grew up on a farm and now runs Never Done Ranch, a 200-acre property in Wisconsin, with her husband, raising cattle, horses, goats, and other livestock alongside family pets. That hands-on experience with animals, she says, shaped how she thinks about faith and resilience, and it’s the frame the book uses throughout: animals as both companions and, in Williams’s telling, instruments of spiritual lesson.
In her statement, Williams remarked that "Animals have been God’s instrument in my life to teach me about love, forgiveness, and purpose." "I wanted to share these lessons through Loki’s story so that children everywhere could understand that their pets are not just companions: they are teachers of the heart."
The book is categorized as juvenile nonfiction-adjacent fiction aimed at young, animal-loving readers, and is pitched as a faith-centered take on the familiar rescue-dog narrative, with the ranch setting giving it a specific, lived-in backdrop rather than a generic farm.
Studio CarryOnHarry sees the appeal here less in the plot than in the setting: a real working ranch, run by the author herself, lending a children’s book about rescue animals an unusual degree of authenticity.

Millbrook resident Betty Kiser, who works as an artist and writer, has released the devotional "Trusting God with Your Change of Seasons" via Christian Faith Publishing.
Through a Christian faith perspective, the devotional explores significant life transitions including career changes, empty nests, relocation, and shifts in marital status, per the publisher’s statement. Kiser draws on Romans 8:28 and Joshua 1:9 throughout, using those passages to argue that age shouldn’t be treated as a barrier to pursuing new direction later in life.
Kiser has spent roughly six decades working as an artist, writer, mentor and teacher, the announcement states. She now works from what she calls her Forever Home and Art Gallery, a space she describes as combining her art practice with her religious life. "My deepest desire is to help others see that every change, every season shift, is an opportunity to deepen our trust in God and discover His faithfulness anew," Kiser said in the announcement.
The book is available in hardcover and paperback through major retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and the Apple iTunes and Google Play stores, as well as directly through Christian Faith Publishing’s website.
Studio CarryOnHarry covers independently published and small-press religious titles because they rarely get mainstream review attention despite reaching dedicated readerships — this one looks like a fairly typical entry in the inspirational devotional genre, aimed squarely at readers navigating midlife or later-life change.
