New Book Exposes U.S. Failure to Clean up Gasoline & Develop Alternatives

Through dozens of interviews and firsthand accounts, authors Burl Haigwood and Doug Durante say that they document the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) inaction and obstruction by the oil industry resulted in a stranglehold on the motor fuel market that endangers public health daily. The authors demonstrate how and why the public got duped into believing gasoline is safe and no viable alternatives exist.

Key points claimed by the authors in the book:
· Considering the total society costs of gasoline’s impacts on national security, healthcare costs, climate change, imports, and federal subsidies for fossil fuels, consumers are currently paying more than $15 per gallon for gasoline.
· The EPA has had authority and opportunities to establish standards for cleaner, safer domestic fuels – but failed.
· Emails obtained through the Freedom of Information Act show EPA and Oil interests collaborated to manipulate computer models used to certify fuel emissions and set standards.
· In 1948 the American Petroleum Institute stated the safe threshold for Benzene is zero. However, gasoline still contains about 20% Benzene and other benzene-based octane enhancers.
· $2-$3 trillion in federal and state subsidies combined with reluctance from consumers, oil companies, and automakers will likely force policymakers to delay current plans to ban internal combustion engines or achieve a 100% Electric Vehicle (EV) fleet.
Co-author Doug Durante said, “EVs can and should help in the future; consumers will need trillions of gallons of gasoline for decades. No logical justifications exist for the EPA to allow excessive levels of higher-carbon, proven carcinogenic benzene-based additives to remain in gasoline, i.e., #Gasolinegate.”

Tex Edes has published "Leadership Communication Simplified: A Personal Development Guide," a self-help title aimed at leaders who struggle to be heard, give effective feedback, or navigate day-to-day workplace conflict, according to the book’s publisher, Page Publishing.
Edes draws on roughly three decades of leadership experience that spans small-town retail, government contracts and corporate boardrooms, according to the announcement. He is also a US Army veteran whose career moved from front-line supervisory work to executive leadership, and he has lectured on communication and built training programs for teams, the publisher states.
The book organizes its argument around five skill areas: building trust through personal branding, listening rather than waiting to respond, reading nonverbal cues, telling stories that move people to act, and holding steady during digital exchanges, difficult conversations and high-pressure moments. Missy Munden has published a new picture book, "Mommy’s Mismatched Heels," about a four-year-old named Kamdyn who refuses to be left out of her older sisters’ games in their mother’s closet. According to the author, Kamdyn finds a pair of mismatched heels, puts them on, and sets off on an adventure of her own, discovering along the way that being the youngest doesn’t mean missing out.
Munden has described writing as a lifelong pursuit, tracing it back to childhood stories and a college professor who encouraged her to take the craft seriously. The book draws on values she says she tries to pass on to her own daughters, built around the idea that self-imposed limits, not age or size, are what actually hold a person back.
"I wanted to create a story that celebrates the spirit of children who refuse to be sidelined," Munden said. "Kamdyn’s adventure in her mommy’s heels is a reminder that all children merit feelings of belonging, agency, and the ability to forge their own wonder."
This work falls within the children’s fiction category and centers on themes of inclusion and self-determination, framed through a younger sibling’s point of view, a perspective not always centered in children’s picture books about imaginative play. It was published through Page Publishing and is available at major retailers including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Google Play, and the Apple iTunes Store, as well as in bookstores.
