New Book From Todd Gee Fox Makes the Case for the Handwritten Letter
Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk
Todd Gee Fox has written "A Winter Season’s Passage: Encouragement: Faith in Action," a book contending that handwritten correspondence possesses spiritual and emotional significance unavailable through digital means like texts and emails, according to the author and his publisher, Christian Faith Publishing.
The book draws directly on Fox’s own life. According to the author’s account, he lost his second wife, Debbie, and went through a period of destructive coping before rebuilding his life with the support of family and prayer. A writing class, he says, opened up a way to put those emotions into words. He met his current wife, Clotilde, in 2016, and the couple were married in a Catholic ceremony in 2019 by a priest Fox identifies as Father John B. Fox has said that his relationship with Father John prompted him to start writing the priest letters beginning in May 2020, a practice he continues.
In the book, Fox describes letter writing as a practice shaped by his large family: he has said his parents, raising eleven children, were frequent letter writers themselves, and that letters from them and from his ten siblings and four children have become keepsakes he now values. He frames the time spent composing a letter as part of what makes it meaningful, arguing that the deliberate, unrepeatable effort of writing is itself a gift to the recipient. The book includes some of his own letters to Father John and to family members as examples of what he calls honest, encouraging correspondence rooted in faith.
"The unveiling of one’s heart through letter writing is a win-win for both composer and receiver," Fox said. "My hope is that this book will inspire readers to take the time to share their true feelings with those they love, especially through the enduring medium of a handwritten letter."
"A Winter Season’s Passage" is published through Christian Faith Publishing and is available through major booksellers, including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Google Play and the Apple iTunes Store.
Studio CarryOnHarry sees this as part of a steady wave of faith-based memoirs built around a single personal practice; whether Fox’s focus on letter writing gives it staying power beyond its immediate audience is worth watching.
