New Memoir “Getting Over Jordyn” Traces an ER Doctor’s Unraveling and Recovery
Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk
A new memoir from a physician identified as Dr. Bubba recounts three decades as an emergency room doctor, a breaking point tied to the death of a young patient, and the addiction, legal trouble and recovery that followed, according to the book’s publisher, Page Publishing.
"Getting Over Jordyn" describes what the author calls "machine mode" — a detachment he built over thirty years in the ER to get through the worst moments of other people’s lives, treating charts rather than people as a way of coping. According to the publisher, this protective mechanism fractured when faced with a patient death beyond his control, triggering the cascade of consequences detailed in the memoir: substance abuse, legal action, and professional collapse.
According to the book’s publisher listing, the recovery that followed ran through the Talbott Recovery Center and the Twelve Steps, and the memoir borrows that program’s storytelling structure directly — organized around the classic format of what the narrator was like, what happened, and what he is like now. Part of the book takes the form of letters addressed to "the Bus Driver," which the author uses as a name for God.
"I wrote this book for everyone who has ever felt alone in their brokenness," the author said in the announcement. "My prayer is that by telling my story with complete honesty, others might find permission to tell theirs, and discover that recovery and redemption are possible, no matter how far we’ve fallen."
The publisher describes the memoir as unsparing rather than a tidy redemption story, mixing confession, dark humor and what it calls hard-won spiritual insight. "Getting Over Jordyn" is available through Page Publishing and at major retailers including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Apple Books and Google Play.
Memoirs built around addiction recovery inside demanding medical careers are a familiar shelf, but Studio CarryOnHarry is curious how directly this one leans on the Twelve Step framework as its literal narrative spine, rather than just its subject matter — that structural choice is what sets it apart from the description alone.
