Retired Coast Guard Officer Writes Memoir on His Ten-Month Third Marriage
Balle Balle Radio™ Entertainment Desk
Jerry D. Jackson, a retired Coast Guard officer, has published a memoir about his third marriage, a ten-month relationship he describes as beginning at his church and ending in what the announcement calls hidden emotional cruelty. The book, titled "THE OTHER SIDE OF SOMEBODY: The Mask She Wears for Them, the Hell She Keeps for Me," is out now through Page Publishing.
Jackson entered the marriage following the cancer-related death of his first wife of over four decades and the end of a long-distance relationship marked by fundamental parenting disagreements, according to the announcement. He has said he entered his third marriage believing he’d found a genuine connection, only to find, in his account, a difference between how his then-wife presented herself publicly and how she behaved at home.
Jackson’s background informs the book’s voice. He served more than twenty-three years in the Coast Guard, including duty in Vietnam as a medevac corpsman involved in what the announcement describes as numerous rescues, and he has recounted an encounter with Admiral Hyman Rickover during his service. He retired from the Coast Guard in 1987 and worked in the civilian sector before writing this book.
"I felt compelled to write this account because my family and friends found the situation almost unbelievable," Jackson said in the announcement. "By documenting what transpired over those ten months, I hope readers will recognize similar patterns in their own lives and find the courage to prioritize their wellbeing."
The publisher describes the book as both a cautionary account and a source of validation for readers who have questioned their own perceptions in a difficult relationship, built around themes of manipulation, early warning signs, and recovery after betrayal. "THE OTHER SIDE OF SOMEBODY" is available through major retailers including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Google Play, and the Apple iTunes Store, as well as through Page Publishing’s website.
Memoirs built around a single relationship live or die on specificity, and a retired medevac corpsman’s instinct for precise detail is an interesting lens to bring to a story like this one. Studio CarryOnHarry will be curious whether Jackson’s military candor carries through to how the book actually handles its central relationship.
