Author Dr. G. Preston Burns, Jr.’s Book, “Never Turn Down a Ride: 10,000 Miles, 56 Days, 20 Dollars,” is Set in the Intersection of the Radical ’60s and the Mellow ’70s

Fredericksburg, VA, May 15, 2023 –(CarryOnHarry.com)– Dr. G. Preston Burns, Jr., who grew up in Fredericksburg, Virginia, has completed his new book, “Never Turn Down a Ride: 10,000 Miles, 56 Days, 20 Dollars”: a fascinating story about a twenty-one-year-old college graduate who had dreamed since childhood about one day seeing the USA. During his years at UVA, his interest was piqued after hearing stories from two older fraternity brothers. They had apparently driven to California, found work, and returned home at the end of the summer. They were rich by his standards since they had saved four times the amount of money that he could even make for the same work in Virginia.

Dr. G. Preston Burns, Jr. received a bachelor’s degree in economics from UVA in 1969. He then proceeded to the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry receiving his DDS degree in 1973. During dental school, he developed the “Burns System of Contract Bridge called How to Win at Bridge Without Really Trying.” He served in the United States Public Health Service before returning to Fredericksburg to start his practice. His son took over his practice with Dr. Burns retiring completely in 2015. Following this trip, he visited all fifty states and over one hundred foreign countries privately. Since 1990, he has read and studied both the United States and world history extensively. In addition to giving presentations to dental societies on special techniques that he developed, he has given presentations on his Timbucto trip and his private excursion to Iran in May of 2000. The Iran talk covers their history, religion, politics, and culture over their three thousand–year period of existence ending with his personal adventure and photographic tour of Iran. He is also the author of the recent book “Leadership Under Fire,” which is a study of the presidents’ lives and re-ranks them according to his new criteria. He still resides in Fredericksburg and is a longtime member of the Heritage Foundation’s President’s Club.

Dr. G. Preston Burns, Jr. writes, “In my limited travels with my parents at an early age, I became aware that people hitchhiked. We would see mostly men standing on the side of the road with their thumbs out. That vision would almost always be followed by my parents’ voices saying, ‘Never pick up a hitchhiker’ and ‘Never hitchhike. It is way too dangerous.’ They never elaborated on the subject perhaps so as to not get me intrigued by the idea. Anyway, I got the idea that it was, in fact, a bad idea all around.”

Published by Covenant Books of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Dr. G. Preston Burns, Jr.’s new book allows readers to follow along as he moves throughout the country and faces many challenges, including unsavory people, lack of money, and lack of safe overnight accommodations.

Readers can purchase “Never Turn Down a Ride: 10,000 Miles, 56 Days, 20 Dollars” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon or Barnes and Noble.

Author James Boudon’s New Book, “Calvary: The Eternity Eclipse,” Introduces Julia Percy, the Leader of Calvary, as She Fights to Escape Her Captors and Save Humanity

Port Allegany, PA, October 30, 2025 –(CarryOnHarry.com)– James Boudon, a graduate of the University of Rochester with a degree in English, has completed his new book, “Calvary: The Eternity Eclipse”: an enthralling novel that follows Percy as she discovers a nefarious scheme after she and three of her teammates have been abducted by these same rebels while returning from a three-month sabbatical on the distant planet Illyria. Percy herself is subsequently disabled and transformed into a human robot subservient to every whim of her archnemesis, Joshua Winston, who is the leader of the rebels. Meanwhile, the other members of Calvary still on Earth face their own problems as their headquarters is attacked by an advance group of the Gehadeans who seek to sideline the team from averting the impending apocalypse.

Author James Boudon began dabbling at writing short stories in the fourth grade and moved on to creating a comic book called “Rabbitman” during high school and a “Star Trek” novella during college. He has also written numerous poems and song lyrics. He currently works as a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service and spends his spare time enjoying golf, hiking, and other outdoor activities when he is not writing. He lives in the beautiful hills and countryside of north central Pennsylvania in a rather remote area where the wildlife outnumbers the people.

Boudon writes, “Julia Kristina Percy sighed as a cool breeze from the oscillating floor fan wafted across her scantily clad sculpted physique. Simultaneously upon the memory-sphere player, Impala Quiff, ‘IQ,’ launched into a squealing high-octane guitar solo. Percy moaned contentedly and closed her eyes as the familiar rock ballad evoked a myriad of all-but-forgotten nostalgia. She was reclining on a lounge chair in the living space of her hotel suite. She had just returned from a vigorous workout in the resort’s large pool and was still clad solely in her olive-green bikini. Lead vocalist Nigel Jape resumed crooning the tune’s lyrics in his scintillating and dulcet tones.”

Published by Page Publishing, James Boudon’s memorable tale invites readers to discover whether Percy will be able to return to her home world ahead of the Bellerophon. Otherwise, all life on the planet will be incinerated, and humanity itself will be erased from existence within the universe.

Readers who wish to experience this engrossing work can purchase “Calvary: The Eternity Eclipse” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes Store, Amazon, Google Play, or Barnes and Noble.

“Saving Throw Society” Brings a Darkly Enchanted New Orleans to Life in an Actual-Play Dungeons & Dragons Podcast

Shoreham, NY, October 29, 2025 –(CarryOnHarry.com)– The veil between worlds is thin in Saving Throw Society, a new actual-play Dungeons & Dragons podcast where the magic of the Feywild lingers over a modern New Orleans. Thirty years after the boundaries between realms began to blur, the city hums with supernatural energy, unseen bargains, and haunting beauty.

Each episode follows a cast of adventurers navigating a world transformed by magic—where every deal has a cost and every roll of the dice can shift the balance between man and myth. With cinematic storytelling, immersive sound design, and a tone that blends southern gothic with urban fantasy, Saving Throw Society invites listeners into a story where reality and the supernatural coexist in uneasy harmony.

“We wanted to tell a story where the fantastic feels lived-in,” says Samson Flancbaum, creator and Dungeon Master. “New Orleans has always been a city of music, mystery, and spirits, it just made sense to let the Fey move in too.”

The podcast combines improvisational storytelling with original worldbuilding and character-driven narrative arcs, offering a fresh take on the D&D format. Expect intrigue, emotion, and a touch of eerie charm as the players explore what it means to live in a world forever changed by magic.

About the Show
Set in a reimagined New Orleans where the Fey and mortal worlds have intertwined for decades, Saving Throw Society explores power, choice, and consequence in a world that never truly sleeps. Each episode features an ensemble cast of voice actors and players guided by the roll of the dice.

Premiere Date: October 28, 2025
