Amsterdam, Netherlands, December 29, 2022 –(CarryOnHarry.com)– MTS’ renowned Dutch musician and music therapist Harry Kappen has released a politically motivated new single, “WarGames.” Following his full-length album “Escape” that was released earlier in 2022, Kappen wanted to bring the year to an end with a meaningful song that not only provokes people’s thoughts, but also makes an impact on the music scene. “WarGames” addresses political turmoil across the world, while also bringing a call to action for issues such as climate change, media misinformation, social ignorance and more.
“In the ‘60s and ‘70s, there was a lot of musical protest going on against, among other things, the Vietnam War,” Harry Kappen says. “While there are enough reasons to protest now, I actually hear little resonance in the current music charts. Just check your Top 40. Are war, climate change, hunger, fake news, mistrust, ignorance etc. not reasons enough?”

All the vocals and instruments on ‘WarGames’ have been recorded single-handedly by Harry, which is the case for most of his music. As a music therapist, Harry has mastered several instruments, in addition to vocal techniques, that he plays for his therapy clients. “WarGames” is a catalyst for change that aims to bring advocacy back to the music scene, while also serving as a prologue to Harry Kappen’s next full-length album, which is tentatively due for release in Spring of 2023.

About Harry Kappen: Harry Kappen has played in many bands in the Netherlands and throughout Europe. He composed his first song when he was 10 years old. He played with his sister Hanneke in Kapsonic and released a self-titled album with her about 6 years ago. Markus Rutz & Third Coast Sounds announce Many Moons, the latest musical expression from the well-regarded trumpeter and composer.
Many Moons is the ninth album from Rutz following the recent albums Storybook (2023) and Penumbra (2024) and features music in small group recorded with contemporaries from the Chicago scene. The ensemble sound is reminiscent of Rutz’s previous Blueprints recording project, extended by more grooves, styles and compositional nuance.
The new work is a continued acknowledgment of the present frame of mind for the musician, contemplating time as expressed in titles referencing the moon and periods of time, with the original tunes By and By, Before We Met, Penumbra, and also including Time to Spare, a composition from Brice Winston. Familiar standards Blue Skies, Moondance and Blue Moon play with the album theme and concept.
Musicians contributing to this recording have a large part in creation of the band’s sound and include friends and associates from various times in Rutz’s musical life. Brice Winston plays tenor saxophone on this third project together, Sharel Cassity plays alto as a second album together and this is the first album with Greg Ward, also on alto saxophone, who plays the closing piece and contributed as producer of the album. Bassists Christian Dillingham and Samuel Peters share the bass chair for their second albums together, as is the case with Matt Gold on guitar and Gregory Artry on percussion.
Whether to find good feelings, inspiration, solace or just a momentary respite from the saturation of global events and circumstances we face, the album is intended to provide just such a soundscape.
